How to use the Voice Level Chart
- Choose the level. Press 0 to 4, click a level, or use the − and + buttons. [ and ] step down and up.
- Pick a display. Show one big level for the whole room to read, or all five levels as a ladder with the current one lit. Press M to switch.
- Say how pupils work. Turn on Show how we work and choose on your own, in pairs, in groups, whole class or ask 3 before me. W shows or hides it.
- Make it yours. Rename the levels and their descriptions in Settings to match the chart your school already uses.
Classroom ideas
- Teach the ladder first: show all five levels, practice each voice together for a few seconds, then switch to one big level for the lesson.
- Match the task: level 0 for a test, 1 for reading corners, 2 for think-pair-share, 3 for group projects, 4 when someone presents.
- Check it with sound: put the chart next to the Noise Meter on the Classroom Board so pupils can see whether the room matches the level.
- Ask 3 before me: during independent work, show level 1 with “ask 3 before me” so pupils whisper to classmates before coming to you.
- Student job: let a “voice monitor” change the level with the number keys when the activity changes.
