How to use the Seating Chart Maker
- Add your class. Under Class list in Settings, click the pencil and paste your students’ names. You get one desk per student, seated in list order.
- Shape the room. Pick Rows, Pairs, Groups of 4, U-shape or Exam rows, then drag desks to match your room. Use − and + for empty desks or fewer desks.
- Seat the students. Press Space to shuffle fairly, A to seat alphabetically, or drop one desk on another to swap two students. U undoes.
- Show or print it. Press F to put it on the projector, V to see it from the front, and click Print for a one-page plan with the class name and date.
Classroom ideas
- First day: project the plan as students arrive so everyone finds their seat without a queue at your desk.
- New groups every week: switch to Groups of 4 and shuffle on Monday; use the Group Maker when you want groups without moving furniture.
- Substitute folder: print the plan in Teacher’s view so the substitute sees the room the way they will stand in it.
- Test day: switch to Exam rows, shuffle, and the spaced single desks are ready before the bell.
- Discussion days: try the U-shape so every student can see every other face, and keep the talk going with the timer.

Frequently asked questions
Are my students’ names uploaded anywhere?
No. Class lists and seating plans stay in this browser on this computer. Nothing is sent to a server, and there are no accounts.
Is the shuffle really random?
Yes. Seats are drawn with your browser’s cryptographic random generator, so every arrangement is equally likely. If you do not like the result, press U to undo or Space to shuffle again.
Can I keep a different plan for each class?
Yes. Each class list has its own plan with its own desks. Switch classes under Class list and the room changes with it.
How do I print the seating chart?
Click the Print button under the plan. It prints on one landscape page with the class name and today’s date, large enough to read on a clipboard.
What happens when a student joins or leaves the class?
Edit the class list. A student who leaves frees their desk; a new student takes an empty desk, or a new desk appears if there is none.
